Craftsman wins GOOD DESIGN® Award, Chicago
Elegant and yet simple and functional: The Craftsman tumbler from SAHM, developed for the urban craft beer scene, scored in Chicago with its innovative design and has won the GOOD DESIGN® Award. This is already the second distinction following the iF Design Award for the glass for the successful provider of glasses for the beverage industry.
With the Craftsman, SAHM has developed an expressive craft beer tumbler that provides the perfect pairing of sensory properties and functionality. The GOOD DESIGN® Award jury in Chicago was equally convinced and awarded the glass the coveted prize. “We are extremely pleased that the Craftsman has already been recognised a second time within such a short period of time,” reports Paul Goller, Managing Director Marketing & Sales at SAHM GmbH + Co. KG. SAHM designer Annette Neunzig developed the tumbler which with its curved shape accentuates the different aromas of beers in different ways and above all brings out the fruity and floral aroma of every craft beer. By directing the flow of beer in a concentrated stream, the glass guarantees drinking pleasure by simultaneously reaching all relevant taste receptors on the tongue. This produces a full and at the same time fresh taste experience. Its functionality makes the tumbler ideal for the urban bar scene. Handling and cleaning are especially easy. The Craftsman is machine made and comes in a 54 cl size.
Brewhouse Tumbler receives German Design Award 2016
Eye-catching, functional and sturdy - these features of the Brewhouse Tumbler from SAHM convinced this year's jury for the German Design Awards 2016. With the Special Mention award, the committee honors products whose design is especially innovative. This is the third award for the glass intending for the tasting of craft beers, joining the ranks of the Red Dot Design award and the Chicago Good Design award.
SAHM, as a successful provider of glasses for the beverage industry worldwide, selected the Brewhouse Tumbler, a glass from the company's own craft-beer range, as their entry for the German Design Award. And, they have been crowned with success. Effective immediately, the product from SAHM can boast the distinction of having earned Special Mention. The Brewhouse Tumbler was designed by SAHM designer Sylvia Weber and is captivating with its clear lines and timeless design. “The round body shape of the upper portion of the glass allows specialty beers to develop their aromas. The narrowing towards the base of the glass allows carbonation to be released optimally and supports the head ideally, explains Michael Sahm, Managing Director at SAHM. The sturdy glass and solid base also ensure the glass' durability. Because of its material characteristics, the stackable glass is ideal for the urban bar scene. It is also available in all European sizes from 0.2 to 0.5 liters.

Glass solutions from SAHM for Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest celebrations based on the Munich original have spread around the world. To enjoy the beverage the Bavarian way, SAHM has developed a number of unique glass and decor solutions based on the annual beer festival: a special highlight this year are tankards and wheat beer glasses in the form of the dirndl, the women's folklore costume, and lederhosen, the men's traditional leather breeches, as well as many other glass shapes with unusual and individually designed motifs.
The Oktoberfest is not just held for two weeks on the festival grounds in the Bavarian capital year after year. In the meantime, the world's largest popular festival is increasingly celebrated around the world. This alone is reason enough for SAHM to offer special shapes of the conventional tankard and wheat bear glasses: both 0.5 liter glasses are available both in a lederhosen and dirndl design. The glass in the dirndl look is especially easy to grasp with its inward-curving, narrow waist; its companion in lederhosen has is tall and straight. The attention to detail is obvious in all designs: whether with flower-patterned apron or traditional breeches - the glasses successfully combine typical Oktoberfest motifs and unique functionality and stability. This makes them an excellent fit to the Oktoberfest tradition of the enthusiastic clinking glasses in a heartfelt toast. SAHM has virtually limitless formats for the design of the décor: solutions range from photorealistic poster motifs to traditional Bavarian designs as well as modern lettering.
SAHM sells the high-quality beer glasses for the Oktoberfest to breweries and event organizers in Germany and abroad. Andin cases where glass is not an option, SAHM also offers the original Oktoberfest tankard “Isar” in 0.5 and 1.0 liters in plastic. For events at which glass is prohibited, SAHM provides this authentic alternative for draught beer.

Successful glass design
SAHM has come out on top three times this year at international design competitions: both the Hamburg Goblet as well as the Brewhouse Tumbler from the company's own craft beer range were recently awarded the coveted Chicago GOOD DESIGN Award. As an entrant to the iF Design Award competition, the Craftsman Tumbler has triumphed, receiving its very first award to be conferred at the award ceremony on 26 February in Munich.
The Chicago GOOD DESIGN Award has been conferred for over 60 years and is one of the world's most prestigious design awards. This is the first prize won by the Hamburg Goblet. The special shape of the craft beer glass allows the full aroma to develop and an accurate comparison of beer color - also thanks to the hollow stem. The stem lengthens the path of the carbonation, allowing the CO2 bubbles to absorb more aromatic substances and thus ensuring a more intensive taste experience. The high-quality crystal of the glass with its bulbous bowl that narrows at the top and its slightly flared mouth make it an ideal tasting glass. The goblet was developed in cooperation with world-class beer sommelier Oliver Wesseloh. The Brewhouse Tumbler - a very popular shape in the international craft beer scene - has received its second prize with the Chicago GOOD DESIGN Award. The tumbler received the Red Dot Design Award in 2015. Once again, it was the tumbler's aesthetic design and the perfect melding of functionality and sensory characteristics that convinced the jury. The tumbler was designed for SAHM by Sylvia Weber. To support the head ideally and allow carbonation to be released, the glass has a narrow base. Thanks to the round body of the upper portion of the glass, the beer has enough room to develop its aromas.
The third award-winning glass debuted less than six months ago and has already won its first prize: The Craftsman Tumbler has won the iF Design Award, one of the most respected competitions for excellent product design. The glass from the SAHM craft-beer range was designed by Annette Neunzig. The unique shape of the tumbler accentuates the different and multi-faceted aromas of a wide range of beers. Fruity and floral components are emphasized, the unique flavor of the craft beer is enhanced. The concentrated flow guarantees the ultimate enjoyment of the beer, ensuring that all regions of the tongue are stimulated at virtually the same time.
