Glass finishing even when there is a shortage of gas

Safe glass decoration thanks to propane gas supply.

Sahm has secured glass decoration capabilities due to strategic planning to utilize propane gas supply as an alternative.
SAHM, one of the leading international suppliers of glasses for the beverage industry, is strategically working to minimize and avoid possible gas shortages.
Sahm works to take measures to be prepared for any crises. “We are investing in a comprehensive supply of propane gas for our lines at the Höhr-Grenzhausen site allowing us to continue to guarantee decoration on glassware.” Says Managing Director Michael Sahm. The propane gas is used to pretreat the glassware, which is then finished using environmentally friendly UV printing. Michael Sahm also states “Until now, we have mainly used ceramic screen-printing methods that require natural gas that involves curing the ink at 600 degrees. However, the process is increasingly being replaced by UV screen printing. The printing inks are cured with UV light in our state-of-the-art machines. There is no high temperature curing. We are increasingly independent of natural gas and are therefore well prepared for the future.”

Cutting-edge glass finishing technology

Digital relief print

Höhr-Grenzhausen, March 2022:

SAHM, one of the leading suppliers of glasses for the beverage industry, leaps into the digital future.

State-of-the-art digital printing for flawless and highly creative glass design for strong brands has already been an inherent part of the SAHM portfolio for
years. Last year, the company extended its provision to include digital relief printing.
This enables the creation of reliefs that were previously only possible on blown or pressed glasses – and all without mould costs or high minimum runs.

New decorating machine for larger series
While our existing machine was previously configured for small series productions,
SAHM has now commissioned a new fully automatic decorating machine for
larger series.
The new Kammann K 15 Digital is not only capable of classic digital printing, but also the creative SAHM digital relief printing. Inkjet technology enables direct printing on all types of
glasses – from individual items to large industrial quantities.

Standard glasses are transformed into exclusive eye-catchers. The procedure also enables personalisation and customisation.

Michael Sahm states, ‘It’s great to be able to offer our customers the most state-of-the-art technology available on the market with the new Kammann K 15 Digital. This gives our customers endless possibilities, such as printing glasses with photos or personalised text, or having every glass in a different colour or design – there really is no desire we can’t fulfil.’

Digital relief printing for smaller quantities
‘An infinity of customisation options exist for customers who are looking for an extra-special brand presence,’ explains Michael Sahm, managing director of the renowned medium-sized company. ‘Regardless of the occasion – whether a company anniversary, a special event or in the gastronomy sector – inkjet technology enables the artistic digital creation of each relief.’

Ideal for the gastronomy sector
Crafted using digital relief printing, the exclusive glasses offer an unrivalled tactile experience, thus setting themselves apart from standard designs. The glasses can be both transparent and coloured.
All products are suitable for use in gastronomy and are dishwasher safe.
Michael Sahm adds, ‘It’s fantastic to be able to offer this technology to customers like breweries and producers of alcohol-free beverages, spirits, wine and champagne. After all, offering the greatest possible degree of customisation gives you a decisive lead on the competition.’

Strahlenbecher wins German Design Award Special 2022

Design glass awarded by SAHM

Höhr-Grenzhausen, February 2022: Noble, luxurious and contemporary –
the Strahlenbecher from the glass specialist SAHM wins the
"German Design Award Special 2022" in the main category
"Excellent Product Design".

The Strahlenbecher impresses with
the effect of the cut glass, which allows the drink to shine brightly
thanks to the light refraction of the wedge structure. This perfectly
sets the scene for the luminosity and intensity of the drink in the glass.
The strong base of the glass guarantees stability when handling,
especially in gastronomy. The slim shape of the Strahlenbecher is a
real highlight not only for beer, but also for long drinks or non-alcoholics.

The design of the extraordinary glass comes from our Prague designer
Rony Plesl. Plesl has been working creatively for SAHM for many years,
and there is a close and trusting cooperation.

"We are extremely pleased about the highly regarded award,"
says Michael Sahm, Managing Director of the company.
"The Strahlenbecher will inspire our customers, be it as a slim beer glass,
as a water or cocktail glass. We know that a glass is an important ambassador
for the respective brand – because excellent design is also playing
an increasingly important role.”

Climate-neutral glasses from SAHM

Collaboration with ClimatePartner

Höhr-Grenzhausen, July 2021: From now on, customers of the medium-sized company SAHM, one of the leading international suppliers of glasses for the beverage industry, can purchase climate-neutral glasses. For this, the company is teaming up with ClimatePartner from Munich. ClimatePartner works with numerous national and international companies; the label can be seen on many products.

By offering climate-neutral products (glasses), customers’ attention can be drawn towards climate protection.
By buying the products, they are offered the opportunity to make a
conscious decision to protect the environment.
Together with ClimatePartner, Sahm GmbH has drawn up a CO2 balance sheet for the entire company called the Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF). This takes into account emission sources such as energy and heating, but also business travel, production materials, logistics and all emissions caused by the company. We strive to reduce the CCF through continuous improvements to the company’s processes.

‘SAHM has been pursuing a consistent strategy in terms of sustainability and resource conservation for more than ten years as part of its ISO 14001 certification,’ says Michael SAHM, the company’s managing director.
‘Therefore, the collaboration with ClimatePartner is a logical step on our path. We take climate protection very seriously and are pleased to start an important working relationship with ClimatePartner.’

Customers who would like to purchase climate-neutral glasses can choose from a wide range of shapes and varieties in the SAHM range. Beer mugs, goblets, glasses for spirits and also glasses for non-alcoholic drinks are available. The additional expenditure for climate-neutral glasses is 1–2% of the production costs. The unavoidable emissions are compensated for by climate protection projects that are verified according to internationally recognised standards.
