Second Award for SAHM Craft Beer Tumbler

Elegant and yet simple and functional: The Craftsman tumbler from SAHM, developed for the urban craft beer scene, scored in Chicago with its innovative design and has won the GOOD DESIGN® Award. This is already the second distinction following the iF Design Award for the glass for the successful provider of glasses for the beverage industry.

With the Craftsman, SAHM has developed an expressive craft beer tumbler that provides the perfect pairing of sensory properties and functionality. The GOOD DESIGN® Award jury in Chicago was equally convinced and awarded the glass the coveted prize. “We are extremely pleased that the Craftsman has already been recognised a second time within such a short period of time,” reports Paul Goller, Managing Director Marketing & Sales at SAHM GmbH + Co. KG. SAHM designer Annette Neunzig developed the tumbler which with its curved shape accentuates the different aromas of beers in different ways and above all brings out the fruity and floral aroma of every craft beer. By directing the flow of beer in a concentrated stream, the glass guarantees drinking pleasure by simultaneously reaching all relevant taste receptors on the tongue. This produces a full and at the same time fresh taste experience. Its functionality makes the tumbler ideal for the urban bar scene. Handling and cleaning are especially easy. The Craftsman is machine made and comes in a 54 cl size.

Special Mention award

Eye-catching, functional and sturdy - these features of the Brewhouse Tumbler from SAHM convinced this year's jury for the German Design Awards 2016. With the Special Mention award, the committee honors products whose design is especially innovative. This is the third award for the glass intending for the tasting of craft beers, joining the ranks of the Red Dot Design award and the Chicago Good Design award.

SAHM, as a successful provider of glasses for the beverage industry worldwide, selected the Brewhouse Tumbler, a glass from the company's own craft-beer range, as their entry for the German Design Award. And, they have been crowned with success. Effective immediately, the product from SAHM can boast the distinction of having earned Special Mention. The Brewhouse Tumbler was designed by SAHM designer Sylvia Weber and is captivating with its clear lines and timeless design. “The round body shape of the upper portion of the glass allows specialty beers to develop their aromas. The narrowing towards the base of the glass allows carbonation to be released optimally and supports the head ideally, explains Michael Sahm, Managing Director at SAHM. The sturdy glass and solid base also ensure the glass' durability. Because of its material characteristics, the stackable glass is ideal for the urban bar scene. It is also available in all European sizes from 0.2 to 0.5 liters.

Thumb_lederhose_dirndl
Tankards and wheat beer glasses in Dirndl and Lederhose

Oktoberfest celebrations based on the Munich original have spread around the world. To enjoy the beverage the Bavarian way, SAHM has developed a number of unique glass and decor solutions based on the annual beer festival: a special highlight this year are tankards and wheat beer glasses in the form of the dirndl, the women's folklore costume, and lederhosen, the men's traditional leather breeches, as well as many other glass shapes with unusual and individually designed motifs.

The Oktoberfest is not just held for two weeks on the festival grounds in the Bavarian capital year after year. In the meantime, the world's largest popular festival is increasingly celebrated around the world. This alone is reason enough for SAHM to offer special shapes of the conventional tankard and wheat bear glasses: both 0.5 liter glasses are available both in a lederhosen and dirndl design. The glass in the dirndl look is especially easy to grasp with its inward-curving, narrow waist; its companion in lederhosen has is tall and straight. The attention to detail is obvious in all designs: whether with flower-patterned apron or traditional breeches - the glasses successfully combine typical Oktoberfest motifs and unique functionality and stability. This makes them an excellent fit to the Oktoberfest tradition of the enthusiastic clinking glasses in a heartfelt toast. SAHM has virtually limitless formats for the design of the décor: solutions range from photorealistic poster motifs to traditional Bavarian designs as well as modern lettering.

SAHM sells the high-quality beer glasses for the Oktoberfest to breweries and event organizers in Germany and abroad. Andin cases where glass is not an option, SAHM also offers the original Oktoberfest tankard “Isar” in 0.5 and 1.0 liters in plastic. For events at which glass is prohibited, SAHM provides this authentic alternative for draught beer.

SAHM glass shapes prove
appealing at international
 Design Awards

SAHM has come out on top three times this year at international design competitions: both the Hamburg Goblet as well as the Brewhouse Tumbler from the company's own craft beer range were recently awarded the coveted Chicago GOOD DESIGN Award. As an entrant to the iF Design Award competition, the Craftsman Tumbler has triumphed, receiving its very first award to be conferred at the award ceremony on 26 February in Munich.

The Chicago GOOD DESIGN Award has been conferred for over 60 years and is one of the world's most prestigious design awards. This is the first prize won by the Hamburg Goblet. The special shape of the craft beer glass allows the full aroma to develop and an accurate comparison of beer color - also thanks to the hollow stem. The stem lengthens the path of the carbonation, allowing the CO2 bubbles to absorb more aromatic substances and thus ensuring a more intensive taste experience. The high-quality crystal of the glass with its bulbous bowl that narrows at the top and its slightly flared mouth make it an ideal tasting glass. The goblet was developed in cooperation with world-class beer sommelier Oliver Wesseloh. The Brewhouse Tumbler - a very popular shape in the international craft beer scene - has received its second prize with the Chicago GOOD DESIGN Award. The tumbler received the Red Dot Design Award in 2015. Once again, it was the tumbler's aesthetic design and the perfect melding of functionality and sensory characteristics that convinced the jury. The tumbler was designed for SAHM by Sylvia Weber. To support the head ideally and allow carbonation to be released, the glass has a narrow base. Thanks to the round body of the upper portion of the glass, the beer has enough room to develop its aromas.

The third award-winning glass debuted less than six months ago and has already won its first prize: The Craftsman Tumbler has won the iF Design Award, one of the most respected competitions for excellent product design. The glass from the SAHM craft-beer range was designed by Annette Neunzig. The unique shape of the tumbler accentuates the different and multi-faceted aromas of a wide range of beers. Fruity and floral components are emphasized, the unique flavor of the craft beer is enhanced. The concentrated flow guarantees the ultimate enjoyment of the beer, ensuring that all regions of the tongue are stimulated at virtually the same time.

Sahm has added another glass to its craft beer range: the Craftsman!

The design is based on the existing Sensorik model and its sensory features have been tested and evaluated by Markus Del Monego, world-champion sommelier and Master of Wine.

‘The unique form of the new Craftsman glass allows the aromas of all sorts of beers to unfold in a very special, multi-facetted way. Particularly fruity and floral scents are intensified, and the individual aroma of each craft beer is brought out. The enjoyment of the drinking experience is guaranteed by the glass shape, which allows the beer to wash almost simultaneously over every taste bud. All the individual characteristics and qualities of each beer are made clear. The drinker is treated to a complex, intense and yet fresh sensation in their mouth’, is Del Monego’s verdict on the sensory advantages of the glass.

The glass is also perfect for the demands of the urban bar scene as it is easy to hold, clean and pour draught beer into. The Craftsman glass is machine-blown and available in 540 ml.

The SAHM Brewhouse tumbler is now the proud owner of the famous red dot

SAHM Brewhouse glass wins Red Dot Design Award 2015 The SAHM Brewhouse tumbler is now the proud owner of the famous red dot: this year, the craft-beer glass has won the Red Dot Award in the category product design. This is the first award for the glass, which has been on sale since 2014. The prize will be officially awarded on 29 June 2015 at the Aalto Theatre in Essen.

The 38 members of the specialist jury particularly praised the interplay of sensory characteristics and functionality. The Brewhouse glass was designed by Sylvia Weber for SAHM and, with its timeless design and clear stylistic idiom, precisely fits the needs of the international craft beer scene. The physical shape displays elements of traditional beer glasses and is pleasant to hold. The glass becomes slimmer in the lower area, which allows optimum gas release and support for the head. The beer looks fresh and appealing. The rounded form in the upper area provides plenty of space for the beer’s full aroma to unfold. The glass walls and the thick base make the glass look high-end and sturdy. The tumblers are particularly suited to the urban bar scene as they are stackable and easy to clean and pour draught beer into. The Brewhouse glass is machine-blown and available in five sizes from 0,2 to 0,5 litre. The Red Dot Award is given out annually and is one of the world’s leading design competitions. It honours products and solutions that excel in evaluation criteria such as innovation, functionality and attractiveness.

SAHM debuts new Hamburg goblet - Dayton tumbler in series production

The new Hamburg goblet permits optimum development of a beer's aroma and an accurate comparison of beer color. SAHM developed the glass exclusively for tasting and evaluating craft and specialty beers. The glass itself has been optimized according to sensory criteria and is made of high-quality crystal glass. Its most striking design feature: the goblet's stem is hollow and thereby allows the carbonation to rise further. The content of the glass with its numerous aromas is enriched. Also very popular in the young craft beer scene is the Dayton tumbler. Because of its very positive evaluation in terms of looks and feel, SAHM has now launched automatic series production of this exclusive glass.

Craft beer and other specialties are increasingly shaping the German beer market. At the same time, demand for greater diversity in the glass shapes used in tasting and the sensory evaluation of beers is growing. SAHM has developed a range of innovative solutions specifically for this purpose. With the new Hamburg goblet the company provides a glass shape that supports the enjoyment and accurate analysis of the handcrafted specialties. The special feature of the glass is its hollow stem. It extends the distance that carbonation travels through the glass to the nose. The bubbles take up aromatic substances and intensify the taste sensation as the beer is consumed. The beer in the stem can also easily be judged for color. The Hamburg goblet also combines the classic features of a tasting glass. These include the bulbous bowl that narrows at the top as well as its slightly flared edge. SAHM developed the new glass together with the reigning world-class beer sommelier Oliver Wesseloh.

The design of the Dayton tumbler has been so popular that SAHM has now decided to start automatic series production to meet the growing demand for the modern glass shape. The young and trendy shape guarantees straightforward beer enjoyment. It is available in standard sizes from 0.2 to 0.5 liter.

Our Sensorik goblet has been awarded the internationally coveted red dot design award in the Product Design category.

The newly developed tasting goblet has been awarded this year’s internationally coveted “red dot” design award in the Product Design category. The beer tasting glass was selected by the judging panel primarily because of its successful combination of design and functionality. The special shape of the glass enables a neutral comparison of the sensory characteristics of beer and was created by SAHM in cooperation with world champion sommelier Markus Del Monego.

Unique design and long-standing expertise in development The new tasting glass SENSORIK by SAHM, a leading company in the field of innovative glass and decor design, shows what can be achieved when these two aspects are combined. The goblet was developed especially for the sampling and evaluation of beers and is shaped in such a way as to enable easier appreciation of all the ingredients in a beer that are of sensory importance. In particular, the glass supports the development of the smell and taste parameters of a beer: for example, it tapers towards the top, enabling the aroma to develop while allowing the alcoholic components to recede into the background. The slightly flared top also helps to optimise the characteristics of the drink and ensures that the beer is distributed evenly across the tongue.

The knowledge acquired from tasting sessions is incorporated into TasteDesign®, a concept developed by SAHM, and used to create new glass shapes or optimise existing ones. These can be customised to suit the needs and defined taste profile of a brand. In accordance with its motto “form follows taste”, TasteDesign® aims to create the optimal glass shape for every drink.

The international red dot design award honours the best products and projects every year. In 2013, the 37-member judging panel considered 4662 entries from 54 countries.

SAHM at BRAU Beviale 2012

Glass and decorative design concepts for perfect beer enjoyment – presented by SAHM at BRAU Beviale. In Hall 1, Booth 1-317, SAHM is showcasing a new and exclusive glass series for Budweiser Budvar. Another focus is on TasteDesign®. Because beer can only develop its unique taste in the right glass.

The Budweiser series Budvar consists of original and unique tumblers, goblets and tankards. The glassware designed by Rony Plesl is suggestive of the letter B or of two kegs placed side by side. The haptic experience was important to Budweiser because contact with the glass is also the first contact with the brand.

It is just as important to emphasize the individual and inimitable character of a beer. This is a challenge that SAHM takes up again and again in the concept TasteDesign®.

SAHM also debuts the new Adelholzener restaurant ware. In addition to glasses and tumblers, this line also includes a single bottle cooler as well as a conference cooler made of plastic.

SAHM has commissioned its new Fermac RUV16 production line

The starting pistol has been fired: SAHM has commissioned its new Fermac RUV16 production line. From now on it will allow 8-colour fully automatic printing with ceramic screen printing inks and 6 UV inks. The total capital investment is about 1.6 million Euros. “At the Höhr-Grenzhausen site we have invested in a new production line in order to be able to offer our customers the best facilities in the field of modern decoration technology and also to be able to react flexibly to new market requirements in the future,” explains Christoph Giloy, Head of Marketing at SAHM. The Fermac RUV16 can print with not only ceramic screen printing inks but also with UV inks.

With this, the company, whose environmental management system is certified to DIN ISO 14001, also takes into account ecological aspects since the UV ink system stands out as being particularly energy-efficient. After printing, the inks need only to be hardened and they no longer need to be fired. Another special feature: the production line has a built-in camera that automatically and independently recognises the side of the glass to which the decoration must be applied.

BRAU Beviale 2011: Glass design and promotional ideas

The wheat beer glasses Madison and Calgary, the Aspen range of glasses and promotional ideas with a focus on the Euro 2012 Championships – these are the core themes of SAHM at this year’s BRAU Beviale. Guests from industry are invited to discover for themselves the power of innovation of the brand glass manufacturer, at Stand 317 in Hall 1: Here, the company is presenting not only its current solutions for the brewery industry, but also projects from the spirits and alcohol-free beverages sectors.

With Madison, Sahm is presenting its multi-awarding-winning wheat beer glass at the Brau Beviale. Alongside the Good Design Award, Chicago 2010, it also won the red dot design award in 2011. It is particularly well suited for light and alcohol-free wheat beers – the current example is an alcohol-free Kapuziner beer. With the Calgary design, a second newly developed shape of wheat beer glass is also being presented. A further highlight is the Aspen range of glasses: Tumblers, goblets and beer glasses in a contemporary glass design, multi-acclaimed and superbly well suited for a successful brand presence in areas such as the trendy and bistro restaurant sector. The importance of the perfect interplay between beverage and glass is fittingly demonstrated by the world champion sommelier, Markus Del Monego. He provides an interesting insight into the world of TasteDesigns® at the exhibition stand.

In addition, innovative decorative solutions are also presented, including relief printing, rubbing, thermal and chalkboard colours, as well as promotional ideas across the exhibition theme of football. “Our glass innovations at this year’s women’s World Cup and the BVB Championships were hugely successful”; reflects SAHM Marketing Manager Christoph Giloy. At the BRAU Beviale, the company will be presenting interesting glass designs and accessory items for the Euro 2012 Championships in Poland and the Ukraine.

Solutions for the entire beverage industry

“We are constantly developing our brand competence and in recent months we have realised numerous projects in the spirits and alcohol-free beverages sector – for example for the brands Russian Standard, Martini, Sierra and Southern Comfort, as well as Selters, Gerolsteiner, Adelholzener and Christinen Brunnen” explains Giloy. The service spectrum encompasses glass and decorative concepts for application in upmarket restaurants, on-pack and promotions solutions, as well as equipment such as stainless steel articles and conference and single bottle coolers from plastic.
